PART 4: DISCUSSION
8. On your Assignment 1 page, address the following three questions:
-
How does the “energy-from-grass” parameter influence the emergent patterns observed in the model simulation?
Energy-from-grass influence the 'speed' of emerging pattern and the population growth of turtles. Higher 'energy' produces rapidly forming pattern, lower produces slowly emerging pattern.
-
How does the “birth-energy” parameter influence the emergent patterns observed in the model simulation?
The sameway as "energy-from-grass" hence as "birth _energy" is growing the pattern is emerging more rapidly. To keep the population of turtles low we need to put the "energy-from-grass" as lower as possible and "increased birth_energy "value. In the '"Code" when parent's value of energy exceeds the threshold of "birth-energy" it hatchs 1 offspring. Energy of the offspring is equal to the value of "birth_energy". Hereafter the offspring is able to reproduce himself shortly after its birth, which is not the case in reality. Offspring needs a time to achieve its sexual maturity and then it is possible to reproduce. As the birth of offspring is exhausting for parent as for the offspring, we set the hatch 1 [ set energy birth-energy ] to hatch 1 [ set energy 10 ] in uploaded video.
The length of video is 70 ticks in slow mode, after cca 30 tics is there a changing combination of factors energy-from-grass and birth_energy with rising severity of grass consuming as following:
1 2 3 4
energy-from-grass min min max max
birth_energy max min max min
corresponding to the population/pattern growth in changing combinantion of values "energy-from-grass" and "birth_energy"
-
Is the emergent pattern sensitive to the initial population size?
Sure, it depends on the population size and its distribution over space.
